Drysuit Diver Class
Always in Season.
Take the season out of your dive season. When diving dry, you are warmer than diving wet, whether in the quarry, Great Lakes or under the ice.

Why Dive Dry
Comfort
All divers want to be comfortable both in and out of the water. Wetsuits can feel uncomfortably snug, be a struggle to get on & lose their insulative capacity with compression. Drysuits are easy don and doff, fit well, & are paired with cozy, dry undergarments.
Safety
Thermal protection is one of the most important aspects of diving safely. Drysuits not only make the diver more comfortable, but staying warm reduces the risk of diver errors.Being comfortable allows one to stay more alert & relaxed during the dive.Nitrogen loading is another consideration. Studies show that a diver that is warm throughout their dive is better off than one that is cold.So everything from a deep wreck dive with a long deco obligation to a 3-minute safety stop, diving dry gets it done.
Buoyancy
Diving in a wetsuit plays a big factor in overall buoyancy.
During a dive, wetsuit neoprene compresses with descend, leading to changes in buoyancy that need to be compensated for. With a drysuit, there is no suit compression factor. All you need to do is add air to the drysuit to maintain comfort & stay perfectly buoyant.
Frequently Asked Questions
Minimum is 15 years by the water phase of the course. Junior certification for ages 10-14 years is allowed. Current enrollment in a NAUI Instructor conducted course (e.g., Open Water Scuba Diver) or certification as a NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver or the equivalent is required.
Of course. While rare, public class dates are subject to change. A minimum number of students is required for the class to be conducted & sometimes instructors get sick (yes, we are not invincible). If a class is cancelled you will be notified & rescheduled into the next available public class. If you have certain deadlines or needs, please consider our Bespoke SCUBA Class to obtain a schedule built around your needs.
Of course you can, somewhere else. There are dive shops available that utilize only the e-learning for academic education. We do not believe that online learning ONLY properly prepares you to dive safely. The value of one on one discussions with our instructors & benefiting from their real life experience is incalculable. Does it cost more to do it this way? Yes. Should that matter? Nope, better learning is always a better value.
Sure, why the hell not. We will just tell the other students that your schedule is our highest priority [do you hear the sarcasm?]. No, these are public classes with set schedules, however, if you do need an experience that matches your schedule, private instruction is available for an additional cost.
If you do not own a drysuit we have some available to rent but learning in the one you will always use is a much better idea. For the rest of the gear, no, technically you don't have to, however, gear for this class is NOT included. We will include tank use and some weights with the class. We have rental packages available, but students in SCUBA Diver Class get first priority. Just buy some gear, honestly we are kind of embarrassed for you at this point... You will need: BCD & Regulator, and all of your personal gear (mask, fins, boots, snorkel). You may want: Hood (we have some available to borrow) Gloves (gloves are considered personal gear & are not rented so you would need to purchase). We do not transport gear to the quarry, you will need to pick up any rented gear from the shop & bring it with you.
No. Just no. Common sporting good gear is not acceptable for SCUBA diving. We are going to teach you how to survive underwater and those toys need to be of a certain quality. Trying to kick in SCUBA gear while wearing a sporting good fin doesn't work, they just bend from the stress. Don't believe us? Try it, but let us get the camera ready first.
Medical Requirements
We are not doctors, we teach SCUBA
As we cannot answer questions on specific medical conditions or questions, every student must complete a medical statement. Please answer it honestly.
Read the instructions on the form. Your self reported answers will determine if a physician's approval is required prior to diving. Once we receive the notification of your completed waiver, we will contact you if a physicians approval is required.
We are NOT PERMITTED by the training agency to allow any in-water training without physician's approval if such approval is required. We encourage you to complete this form as early as possible to ensure adequate time is available should you need to obtain approval.
