Take the season out of your dive season. When diving dry, you are warmer than diving wet, whether in the quarry, Great Lakes or under the ice.
All divers want to be comfortable both in and out of the water.
Wetsuits can feel uncomfortably snug, be a struggle to get on & lose their insulative capacity with compression.
Drysuits are easy don and doff, fit well, & are paired with cozy, dry undergarments.
Thermal protection is one of the most important aspects of diving safely. Drysuits not only make the diver more comfortable, but staying warm reduces the risk of diver errors.
Being comfortable allows one to stay more alert & relaxed during the dive.
Nitrogen loading is another consideration. Studies show that a diver that is warm throughout their dive is better off than one that is cold.
So everything from a deep wreck dive with a long deco obligation to a 3-minute safety stop, diving dry gets it done.
Diving in a wetsuit plays a big factor in overall buoyancy.
During a dive, wetsuit neoprene compresses with descend, leading to changes in buoyancy that need to be compensated for. With a dry suit there is no suit compression factor. All you need to do is add air to the drysuit to maintain comfort & stay perfectly buoyant.
There is a reason your instructor wears one.
Underwater or topside, when you are warm & comfortable you are better equipped to enjoy your diving experience.
Before you buy, please read the FAQ below.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No, this the first of two parts to obtaining SCUBA certification. After completing this course you must perform "Check Out Dives" demonstrating required skills. This can be completed with us at a nearby quarry or we can write a referral so you can perform them at destination dive centers.
10 years of age or older, tread deep water for 10 minutes unassisted, continuously swim 200 meters or snorkel 300 meters, SCUBA quallity mask, open-heel fins, boots, and snorkel
Of course. While rare, public class dates are subject to change. A minimum number of students is required for the class to be conducted & sometimes instructors get sick (yes, we are not invincible).
If a class is cancelled you will be notified & rescheduled into the next available public class.
If you have certain deadlines or needs, please consider our Bespoke SCUBA Class to obtain a schedule built around your needs.
Of course you can, somewhere else. There are dive shops available that utilize only the e-learning for academic education. We do not believe that online learning ONLY properly prepares you to dive safely. The value of one on one discussions with our instructors & benefiting from their real life experience is incalculable. Does it cost more to do it this way? Yes. Should that matter? Nope, better learning is always a better value.
Sure, why the hell not. We will just tell the other students that your schedule is our highest priority [do you hear the sarcasm?]. No, these are public classes with set schedules, however, if you do need an experience that matches your schedule, we have Bespoke SCUBA Class available for a more private customized experience.
No. We will supply you, included in the course fee, with a buoyancy compensation device, a regulator, a tank & any needed weight.
You WILL NEED to what is referred to as "personal gear" including SCUBA rated mask, fins, boots & a snorkel. Economical solutions are available for purchase.
No. Just no. Common sporting good gear is not acceptable for SCUBA diving. We are going to teach you how to survive underwater and those toys need to be of a certain quality. Trying to kick in SCUBA gear while wearing a sporting good fin doesn't work, they just bend from the stress. Don't believe us? Try it, but let us get the camera ready first.
We are not doctors, we teach SCUBA
As we cannot cannot answer questions on specific medical conditions or questions, the RSTC has a universal medical form you must complete prior to any in-water training. Please answer it honestly.
