Basic Life Support: CPR, First Aid & AED (BLS)
Be ready to respond.
Whether it’s being on the scene of an accident or witnessing a medical emergency, most people will be involved in a crisis at some point in their lives. First aid training and incident management skills empower people to step up and take action should these situations arise.
Developed by physicians and educators, DAN’s courses are easy to understand and designed to provide you with the skills and confidence you need to respond in emergencies. DAN first aid courses prepare people to manage injuries related to scuba diving as well as those that occur in other settings.
All courses meet current ILCOR and AHA guidelines.

FAQ
- First Aid Class from a Dive Shop? Surely you can't be serious.
- We are absolutely serious, and please don't call me Shirley.
- Divers play in extreme environments in remote locations where access to emergency services is measured in miles, not minutes. Our staff undergoes extensive training in emergency management & your instructor is qualified to teach well beyond basic First Aid & CPR.
- We chose DAN's program because it exceeds industry standards & includes additional training commonly seen as an "optional add on".

- How long does certification last?
- The certification is valid for two years from completion, but skills begin to degrade rapidly. Two years is a minimum standard. Ideally once a year everyone would take another course to ensure the muscle memory is ready if it is ever needed.
- Can I skip the classroom discussion & just learn online?
- No. While other national training agencies have online courses, the devil is in details.
- Check the fine print, following any online course you must complete in-person training for CPR/First Aid & AED Certification.
- I'm uncomfortable going mouth to mouth with a stranger, is that ok?
- Yes. Chest compression only CPR has been shown to be critical. In a real emergency, performing compression only CPR helps circulate already oxygenated blood so if mouth to mouth isn't your speed you can still provide critical care. We discuss this in greater detail during your course.
- I have a business or a large group, can you take the show on the road?
- Absolutely. We provide training onsite for businesses, schools, Scout Troops, & much more.
- We will need a television with an HDMI port for presentations as well as enough space for students to sit & get physical practicing the skills first hand.
- On site courses are priced on a case by case basis, please reach out via email or call/text us at 513.521.DIVE(3483).
- I watch a lot of medical shows, can't I just do what I see there?
- Please don't. Preforming an emergency tracheotomy using a ballpoint pen on a busy city bus looks cool on TV. Much like everything else, reality is vastly different from TV. Training is vital.
- Could class dates change?
- Of course. While rare, public class dates are subject to change. A minimum number of students is required for the class to be conducted & sometimes instructors get sick (yes, we are not invincible). If a class is cancelled you will be notified & rescheduled into the next available public class.
- If you have certain deadlines or needs, please consider our Bespoke Class to obtain a schedule built around your needs.
- Can this class be modified around my schedule?
- Sure, why the hell not. We will just tell the other students that your schedule is our highest priority [do you hear the sarcasm?]. No, these are public classes with set schedules, however, if you do need an experience that matches your schedule, please explore our Bespoke Class Upgrade option.
Reschedule/Cancellation Policy
Life happens, we get it & we want to find a way to get you diving.
- Your schedule changed
- Ours does too sometimes. We get it. You may reschedule to an alternate class anytime without an additional charge 14 days prior to the start of the class. Within 14 days, there is a $35 fee to reschedule.
- You need to cancel
- You changed your mind, doctor doesn't think it's a good idea, whatever. It's ok. You may cancel any course (in writing please) for a full refund 14 days prior to the start of the course (this is why we advise you do that questionnaire early). Please understand that space is limited in our courses, we cannot offer refunds for cancellations within 14 days of the original course start.
- Please note: codes issued from the training agencies cannot be refunded once you have begun the e-learning regardless of when you cancel. If you begin the e-learning any refund will be less the cost of the e-learning.
- Somebody got sick
- We get sick sometimes too. No problem. If you wake up with the plague we prefer you do not come to class. A big part of the education requires us to enter each other's personal space. While training aids are sanitized between students, we really don't want the plague.
- We will work with you to move you to a future class at no charge. We do, however, reserve the right to assess a charge if we find this policy is being abused. Please don't do that.
- You ignore safety instructions
- Safety is our paramount concern. Your safety, other students' safety & our staff's safety. You are required to follow established safety requirements & follow the instructions of our staff. Violations of safety procedures may result in removal from class without a refund. Just don't do it.
- You ignored requirements
- Come on, really? Showing up for class without the e-learning complete hung over, nauseous & sleepy from a wild night does not entitle you to a free reschedule. We honestly can't believe we have to type this but yes, it happened.
